Charles R. Bond, Jr. served with the American Volunteer Group ‘Flying Tigers’ in Burma and China during World War II. He finished his tour with the A.V.G. with 9.5 confirmed kills and was shot down twice. This aircraft was lost on April 10, 1942 in a strafing attack at Loiwing. In interviews conducted with Bond in 1999 and 2000 while researching this profile, Charlie said it had kill markings at the time the aircraft was lost, but as no known photos depicting them have been found, the profile depicts it without them per the available photos.
