P-47D-10-RE Serial Number 42-75121 61st F.S., 56th F.G.

Assigned to Lt. Col. Leslie C. Smith (ace with seven victories.) Also flown by Lt. Frank Klibbe on nine missions between January 24th and February 8th 1944.

Profile notes: Photos are not clear as to if this aircraft had a 55” or 60” port underwing star, but based on the positioning of the star in the available references, it appears to be a 60” insignia. Note slightly ‘cocked’ code letter Z aft of the star on the fuselage. Aircraft had the taller semi-spherical rearview mirror attached, and a British Mk.II reflector gunsight installed. While not 100% confirmed, one photo seems to show the instillation of the underwing pylon as depicted in the profile, and other aircraft from this period (UN*Z) had them installed (confirmed in photos).
